Re-experiencing Exercise #3
When I saw this quote by Clint Eastwood, I thought of the following imagery exercise.
I found it most powerful!
Use This Method
3 Minute Imagery Session: When You Feel a Craving to View Porn, shut your eyes. Breathe out three times.
Feel the confrontation of being caught looking at porn; Experience the pain; Hear the conversation; See the look on the person’s face who caught you.
What would it feel like if your spouse caught you? child? parent? coworker? boss?
Open your eyes. Did you experience negative emotions?
At this moment, do you want to view porn?
Use this quick example, when a craving comes to view pornography, pretend that this time will be the time that you are caught; then, experience the negative feelings. Feel the Power to Say No to the porn Craving.
You should do this.
I’m wondering if you have thought about how sexual addiction steals the pure pleasurable experiences from life!
We are meant to enjoy pleasure.
Agree with me; It’s your life.
Imagery’s Phenomenal Power: Sigmund Freud compiled his case studies and theories into 25 volumes. One particular case study stands out among all of his works. Freud had made an outstanding discovery. He experimented with imagery in treatment of a client having a physical tic. Freud took the client mentally through one imagery session; the patient immediately recovered from the tic (Epstein, 1989, p. 6).
Thanks,
Richard
