Pornography Addiction; 10 Powerful Techniques That Eradicate Relapses

After You Use One Technique, You’ll Discover the Power of the Ten Tools that Stop Relapses or Retain Sobriety.

Relapse is part of the healing process.

Use a 3×5 card.  Write the 10 techniques on it.  At the beginning of the day or when something triggers you to view porn or sexually act out, read the list of 10.  The technique that stands out focus on it exclusively.

The craving will leave you.

Secret: Carry the 3×5 card wherever you go.

 The Ten Techniques

  1. Write compelling benefits (lifestyle and medical) of being free from porn.
  2. Jot down a few intense emotional experiences (desperation or shame of others finding out) that porn has caused.
  3. What do children learn about sex from seeing a parent viewing pornography? Quickly write one sentence.
  4. Are a person’s sexual addiction congruent with her vision and values for one’s life?
  5. Find like-minded people at support groups; perhaps, 12-steps meetings.
  6. Can you write down exactly how you want to behave if you have a triggering experience; moreover, make a commitment to yourself?
  7. What warning signals (cues: triggers, sensual feelings, persisting thoughts) can you use to resist porn and keep your commitment? Arousal does not mean you failed but is a warning signal to switch thoughts or behavior.
  8. What can you replace porn addiction with (e.g. prayer with meditation music or complete body relaxation; choose healthy substitutes.)?  Will take time to reprogram your mind and body.
  9. Who (friends & family) can support you (be aware of saboteurs who don’t want you to succeed)?
  10. How can you reward yourself after completing a successful week (successfully completing an action goal of sobriety)? (Prochaska, 2008)

Work it.  Rework it; Till it works.

The 10 powerful techniques were an inspiration from the Transtheorectical Model by James O. Prochaska, Ph.D. of the cognitive and behavioral processes of change.

Thanks,

Dale

In the year 1971 I became a store manager at age 19. I discovered I had a gift for mentoring. I gave one on one coaching, instruction and teaching with ease. And, I loved it. However, I had a problem that held me back from achieving my full potential. I was addicted to porn. When I was going through my puberty years in life, I found pornography (adult magazines) in my Dad's closet. I was hooked. I had my ups and downs throughout my life: Ups, when I was off of porn and using my gift: and, Downs, when I was using porn. Porn captured my attention, holding me back. I found the secrets to breaking free from porn. Like anyone else, I have to work at keeping my emotions positive, every day, to stay free. Limiting emotions--fear, doubt, hate, lust, sloth, pride, any emotion that kills joy. Joy is the ultimate weapon against porn. You have it; porn loses its hold on you. I dedicate this blog to those who are looking for ways to end pornography in their life. To Your Peace, Power and Plenty, Dale P.S. The picture above is not me. The photo represents all families free from pornography.
