The SPIRIT Destroys Porn Cravings

Fill Your Mind with Light
Fill Your Mind with Light

Daily Focus

Focusing on Virtue Empowers Mind and Body.”–Dale Criswell

As you start reading the beginning of this article, you find yourself hoping for something new in your life.  Something that will help you recover from sexual addiction.

The Secret: Focusing on Good Chases away Porn Cravings Every Time.

For example, you concentrate on humility, love, kindness, self-control, or patience.  At that moment, you feel the craving to view pornography leave you.

When a craving comes back, simply ask, “What do I need to focus on right now.” The answer will come. Whatever comes to mind, you focus on the good.

Virtues are part of the Spirit of Christ.  Focusing on the fruits (good/virtue) of Christ’s Spirit blocks porn cravings every time, if you will it so.

A Buried Fact: Hurtful Emotions (hate, lust, pride…) cause turmoil in the soul such as anxiety, stress, depression, uncertainty, unrest, hypersensitivity….

Past Conditioning: When you felt these harmful emotions, you used sexual release (masturbation or pornography) to rid yourself of uncomfortable feelings (pain). Consequently, today, whenever you feel pain (hurtful emotions), the body craves sexual stimulation to medicate the painful feelings away.

Today: YOU Simply Focus on Good and Visualize Porn Cravings Leaving YOU.

Breakthrough Method:  Read a proverb from a chapter of the Book of Proverbs (or Psalms) corresponding to the date of the month.  For example, the first of the month is Chapter One of Proverbs.  Scan over Chapter 1; whatever proverb (verse) pops out at you, write it down and read throughout the day.  The 2nd of the month, you scan through Proverbs Chapter 2.  Write the proverb that helps you for that morning and read throughout the day.

When cravings for porn come during the day, pull out the 3×5 card and read the proverb.  Think on the proverb and notice how the cravings subside.  The Spirit of Christ blocks porn; just focus on his goodness.

If you find a proverb that particularly helps you, post it in the comment section.  It may help someone else.

  1. Gratitude and Mercy
    Psalms 118:1, 5

“O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: because his mercy endureth forever. I called upon the Lord in distress: the Lord answered me, and set me in a large place.”

Meaning for Me: Gratitude causes God’s mercy.

Do you have a favorite verse? …Uplifting?

    1. Proverbs 26:5 “Answer a fool according to his folly, or he will be wise in his own eyes.” After reading this proverb today, I thought how I wanted to view pornography and did so. Now, I realized that I needed to answer the fool (me), the folly inside me, so that I do not think it is okay to view porn. Pornography becomes my ruin.
      Thanks,

  2. God Hears You
    Psalms 120:1; 121:3, 4

    My Summary of Scripture:
    You are distressed.
    You call on God.
    He doesn’t sleep.
    God hears you.
    He keeps you.
God preserves your soul because you love him.

Make your post how you wish.
I like to put the scripture in my own words (modern English).

    1. Proverbs 28 New International Version (NIV)
28 The wicked flee though no one pursues,
but the righteous are as bold as a lion (NIV, 2011).

      “Bold as a Lion”
When I pursue sensuality or sexuality, I am fearful though no harm is present. I am hesitant about all that I do. When I abstain from masturbation and pornography, I find peace and the courage of a lion. Sensual feelings happen for guidance and sharing with my soul mate.

  3. Prudence
    Proverbs 27:12
“A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himslf; but the simple pass on, and are punished.”

What I have experienced is to be ready for evil before it comes. My emotions warn me when I need to get strong. If I am down, stressed or feeling badly about myself, I quickly do something to get me to feel better. Example: I find ways to do good things for my spouse, children or simply go for a walk. I do something that makes me feel better.

When cravings for porn come (or a trigger happens), then I can go the opposite direction and hide myself.

  4. God Powers My Spirit

    Psalm 42:8

“Yet the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.”

While I make my contribution at work, I know God provides. As I make a difference, good comes back to me.

At night, I am grateful for my day. God empowers my spirit to resist porn.

    God’s lovingkindness strengthens me.

  5. Honesty and Contentment Gives You Power over Porn

    Proverb 30:7-9

“Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die: Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the Lord? Or lest I be poor, and steal and take the name of my God in vain.”

Life Principle: Being Honest and Content Gives You Power to Be Good. (To Overcome Porn)

If I had my druthers, I would rather be prosperous than poor.

There is a difference between prosperity and riches.

Riches are neutral; prosperity isn’t. If a man’s heart strays from God, riches become lies. If a man is rich while his heart is Gods, he then becomes prosperous.

Neither poverty nor riches are evil; it’s the meaning placed on one’s situation. Even if a person has food convenient for him, it can become a snare to him, if he has an ungrateful heart.

Conclusion: Being grateful to God and obeying his Commandments protects you from evil (Porn Lust).

  6. A Good Man
    Proverb 9:9, 10

Give advice to a wise man, and he becomes wiser: teach a just man, and he learns. Having a deep profound reverence for God is wisdom: the knowledge of his joy is power. If you are wise, then you experience joy for yourself. (my words: how this scripture touched my heart)

Power Principle: When I understood that God’s ways are joyful, it ceased to be hard. Then, I found joy. This is my strength agaisnt viewing porn.

The feelings from joy last forever (unless I kill it); feelings from viewing porn last a day at best, maybe two, possibly three; then, it’s an emotional hell.

The wise man hears wisdom and finds joy. It’s his only hope against pornography.

  7. God Delivers You From Pornography
    Psalms 31:1-5, 24

I put my trust in God to deliver me in His goodness.
O God, “Listen to me deliver me speedily; Be my Rock, a defence to SAVE me from pornography.”
God, You are my Rock and Fortress. For Your name’s sake lead me, guide me.
Pull me out of pornography’s net that in private destroys me. God, you are my strength. Into your hand I commit my spirit. You rescued me, O Lord God of truth. …
I am of good courage. God strengthens my heart. I hope in the Lord of heaven and earth. (these words came to me as read this passage)

If you are down and you feel overwhelmed about pornography, say to your heart, “Trust God. He is your rock.”
God’s love is unconditional. He will deliver you. Aren’t you His child? Therefore, God is your Rock, protecting and delivering. Focus on the unconditional love of God; God delivers you.
    Believe.

  8. A Man of Discernment

Using Wisdom Delivers Him from the Sexy Woman
    Proverbs 2:3-5, 10, 11 and 16

My son … if you want knowledge and if you ask questions for understanding: if you go after knowledge as silver, and search for understanding as hidden treasure; then you begin to understand how to reverence God. You find knowledge and understanding how God operates.

You discern what is good and evil; knowledge is pleasant. Discretion preserves you from the sexy woman. Wisdom keeps you.

To deliver you from the sexy woman, even the woman who flatters you with enticing words.

A good man is hypersensitive to harm. He feels it throughout his body. He looks out for lustful thoughts. He focuses on good, but he pays attention to his body. It warns him with sexual sensations. Feeling sexual tension, the good man avoids all sexual situations. The good man reserves his sexuality for his soul mate. He keeps his mind clear.

Yes, his discretion delivers him from the sexy woman. Knowledge, understanding and wisdom make him feel good. He wants to keep those feelings. They are powerful.

  9. Don’t Cause Anxiety
    Psalm 37:7-9

Rest in God. Patiently wait. …
Cause not Anxiety by doing evil.
    Wait on God.
The meek shall inherit the earth.
    Be good and find rest.
    (how this Psalm helped me)

    Pornography is evil.
Doesn’t it exploit women with low self-esteem?
    Models are trained to smile.
The women who pornography misuses are not happy.
It is evil to take part in it.

You have rest in your soul when you seek good.
You have distress when you seek evil.
In the long run, which feels better?

  10. God Keeps You in Times of Trouble
    Psalms 41:1, 2

God blesses you when you give to the poor.
The Lord delivers you in times of trouble.
    God preserves you.
    God keeps you.
When you give, the Lord gives back to you.
    You then have plenty.

A benevolent attitude is stronger than porn cravings.
Benevolence activates all empowering feelings which overpower pornography.

  11. The Power of Light
    Proverbs 11:30

The benefit of virtue is the power of light. Where there’s light, there’s no craving for porn, because light chases away darkness. (my words; thoughts that came to me while reading this verse)

  12. Pornography Prevents You from Doing Great Things

    Proverbs 18:16, 24

“A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men. … A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”

A man’s gift brings him before great men, if he shows himself friendly. However, masturbating to porn makes you egocentric, self-center. Selfishness will keep you from helping great men or even becoming a selfless friend.

  13. Porn Caught Him
    Proverbs 7:7-27, 1&2

“I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding.”

Passing through cyber space near her website, he went near her porn site. In the twilight, in the evening, in the black of the night, there he met a woman subtile of heart.

She caught him. He Knew not it’s for his life. He went after porn as an ox to be butchered, as an ox gutted to be sold for consumption. …

She has destroyed many strong men. Spiralling down to death, her house sucks life out of all who view her, thrusting their lives into hell.

    These men lose it all.

“My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee. Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye. ”

Focus on virtue, and the light chases away the dark.

  14. Witty Invention Protects You from Porn

    Proverbs 8:12, 14

“I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions. … Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.”

Desire wisdom; You find witty inventions to stop pornography in your life.

  15. The Simple Turns to Pornography

    Proverbs 9:13-18, 6

The simple turns to the releaser, pornography; all along, wondering why, he does.

She says to him, “Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”

He views the emotionally dead and sees the guests in the chamber of hell; all those doing porn have deaden their souls to the feelings of peace and joy.

“Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.”

  16. Firm Character

    Proverbs 10:9

“He who walks uprightly walks surely; but he who perverts his ways shall be known.” (modern English)

Have you ever noticed, after viewing pornography, how you act around friends and family? After clicking in private on porn sites, what happens in public? What were your feelings when people noticed your attraction to their body parts?

Have you noticed how you feel when you avoid pornography? How did it feel when you had control of your eyes and thoughts, when you behaved well around others?

Did it make you feel good, treating others with dignity?

  17. Integrity Guides You
    Proverbs 11:3 (find and read)

“Integrity guides a good man; yet, perverse thoughts destroy the foolish”–Richard Arthur

Pornography ruins a person’s chances for greatness; unless he chooses integrity as his guide.

  18. The Flame of the…

    Proverbs 13:9 (find and read)

“The light of the good man rejoices; but the flame of the wicked shall be put out”–Richard Arthur

Have you ever been on a roll, when you felt good, actually happy? Everything was going well. You were enthused.

Then, for some reason, you decided to take a quick look at a porn site. Well you know, it was only a look and you clicked off the site.

    Afterwards, what happened?

You no longer felt enthused about things.

    The flame went out!

Remember that feeling the next time the urge to look at porn comes. You get angst for enthusiasm.

The trade off isn’t worth it, is it?

  19. “A Good Man Shall Be Satisfied.”

    Proverbs 14:14

“The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.”

You have what it takes to have all you want.
Only avoid pornograpny and masturbation; they emotionally kill you.

    1. Humility Precedes Honor

      Proverbs 15:33 (Find and read.)

“A deep reverence for God is instruction in wisdom; and before honor is humility”–Richard Arthur

It’s honorable to resist viewing porn, it takes humility to have the power to say no.

  20. “Put God Before You.”
    Psalms 16:1, 8&11 (find & read)

“God preservers you when you trust God”–Richard Arthur.

Put God before you; keep God at your right hand; you shall not be moved.

God will show you the path of life: in God’s presence is fulness of joy.

In God’s right hand, there is power and strength: joy.

God wants to hold you in His right hand.

Ask yourself a question, “Do I really want to look at porn and kill the joy I desperately need?

    1. “A merry heart is medicine to the spirit”-Richard Arthur

      Proverbs 17:22
“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.”

The probem with pornography, it kills your spirit. You eventually become despondent. If you ignore your despondency, you lose your conscience. You are like a dead man walking.

Find happiness: Seek the ways of God. Seek a merry heart, cheerfulness.

Understanding with wisdom makes your spirit alive, full of life.

God is a cheerful God. You are his child, didn’t he create you?

  21. “When God builds your house, your labor is productive”–Richard Arthur

    Read Psalm 127:1

When God directs your life, you become productive in all you do.

Pornography fills your mind with dark thoughts, unable to hear God, your life becomes unproductive.

Seek God for guidance in all you do, God will build your house and prosper you.

  22. “Wealth Makes … Friends”

    Proverb 19:4

“Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.”

Has veiwing porn got your focus?

Ask yourself, “If I don’t cease, will I become poor?”

“Foolishness perverts his way; his heart frets against God; he loses his integrity”-Richard Arthur

    THE ANSWER
    Proverbs 19:8 (find and read)

He who gets wisdom loves his soul: he who keeps understanding finds good.

Then, his/her business is free to prosper.

  23. Gold & Rubies and…

“There is gold, and vast amounts of rubies: but wise words are precious jewels, helping those in need.”-Richard Arthur

    Proverbs 20:15 (find and read)

Words of a wise person heals emotional needs; the words of the foolish are worthless stones, falling to the ground.

If you view porn, are you wise?
    What happens to your words?

Think about it. Pay attention and hear and understand and quit pornography. Porn makes a person egocentric.

  24. Mercy Finds Life

    Proverbs 21:21
“He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.”

“Seek good and mercy honors you with life and goodness”-Richard Arthur

  25. Plenty

    Proverbs 21:5
“The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.”

Have you ever noticed after masturbation and pornography, you cease to be diligent? Are you hasty to do the first thing that hits your brain?

Do you become impulsive, leading you down the path of want?

Seek good, avoid evil, and have plenty.

    1. “A Prudent Man Forsees…”

      Porverbs 22:3-5

“A prudent man foresees the evil, and hides himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

“By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.

“Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.”

By humility, a man avoids being contrary; he forsees the evil in pornography and keeps his soul free from chaos–angst, anxiety, stress, self-loathing.

“The wise man (woman) shields his (her) thoughts by hiding from the evils of porn.”–Richard Arthur

      1. “You Become What You Think, so think best of you.”-Richard Arthur

        Proverbs 23:7
“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.”

Do you want to become like people on Porn Sites?

You avoid it by only thinking on what you want to become not on what you have done.

        Secret: Forgive yourself. Move on.

        Peace,
        Dale

  26. “Forsake Me Not.”

    Psalms 119:5-8

O that my ways were directed to keep your statutes!

Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all your commandments.

I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned your righteous judgments.

I will keep your statutes: O forsake me not utterly.

Reading these verses, you can see the struggle the Psalmist is having. He wants to walk in God’s ways; yet, at the same time, he feels this connection to his past behaviors, not living up to God’s standards.

He has felt God forsaking him when he’d broken a commandment. Now, he confesses, “I will keep your statutes: “O forsake me not utterly.”

Doesn’t his conflict sound like the pornography struggle.

Read Psalms 119 and discover how he overcomes.

    Peace,
    Dale
(Check KJV version for accuracy; written in modern English for reading ease.)

  27. “They Have Great Peace.”

    Psalm 119:164-168

Seven times a day do I praise you because of your righteous judgments.

Great peace have they who love your law: and nothing shall offend them.

Lord, I hope for your salvation and do your commandments.

My soul keeps your testimonies, and I love them exceedingly.

I keep your precepts and your testimonies, for all my ways are before you.
(Written in modern English; also read KJV.)

“My body experiences horror at the mere thought of pornography.”–Richard Arthur

    1. “A fool utters all his mind, forgetting those present”-Richard Arthur

      Proverbs 29:11

A fool utters all his mind: but a wise man keeps it in till afterwards. (modern English)

Have you ever noticed after viewing pornography and masturbation that whatever thought hits your brain it rolls off your tongue. You impulsively say the first thing that comes to mind, and it’s usually egocentric, selfishly based.

Pornography and masturbation are self-gratification first and then more self-gratification later.

“Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the Lord understand all things.”

Life isn’t meant to be self-centered. It’s meant to be centered in serving others.

Seek God. Find ways to serve. Discover peace.

  28. “O God, You Are My God.”

    Psalms 63:1, 2

O God, you are my God; early will I seek you, my flesh longs for you in a dry land, where no water is; To see your power and your glory, so as I have seen you in the sanctuary. (modern English)

What does your body long for, pornography or God?

Seek Him early in the morning; meditate on His word till you feel your entire person longing. You’ll know; you’ll feel peace, a sense of stillness.

  29. “Four things say not, ‘It is enough.'”

    Proverbs 30:16, 17

“The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, ‘It is enough:’

“The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that saith not,It is enough.”

Pornography is that fire; It never says, “It is enough.”

  30. “What’s the Conclusion?”

    Ecclesiastes 12:13

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”

What does it mean to fear God?

Meaning: Having a feeling of deep reverence for Him, a profound sense a awe, an obeisance respect for God’s ultimate power of your life are a few ways to explain “fear”.

What does it mean to keep His commandments?

Meaning: Attune oneness with God and His creation. Loving God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind, and loving your neighbor as yourself are the two commandments Jesus mentioned in Mark Chapter 12, verses 29-31.

The question to answer is, “How does pornography prevent you from doing this?”

  31. “Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

    Proverbs 4:20-23

My son and daughter, attend to my words; incline your ear unto my sayings. Let them not leave your sight; keep my sayings in the midst of your heart.

For they are life unto you who find them, and health to all your body.

Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are
the issues of life. (paraphrase, modern English)

How does pornography weaken your heart?

For one thing, porn deadens your heart. You cease to emotionally feel anything.

The issues of life that flow out of your heart are emotions. Empowering emotions feed your spirit and heals your body.

Point: Have you ever heard the stories how intense fear can make someone sick?

Pornography and masturbation cause intense negative emotions, making you sick; spiritually, emotionally and physically.

Protect your heart: Block porn from your sight and from your thoughts.

  32. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble”–Psalms 46:1

What happens to your strength, when you view pornography? Do you have a place of refuge?
